What is RYLA?

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is Rotary's leadership training program for young people.

A Rotary Tasmania District Program

In the 2016-17 Rotary year, RYLA became a Rotary District 9830 (Tasmania) program. Continuing to run with a passionate committee of past participants and Rotarians, who are joined by additional Rotarians to support the statewide focus of the program.

RYLA Today started when...

Rotary Club of Ulverstone West,and the Rotaract Club of Central Coast organised RYLA between 2002 and 2016. Taking it from a brilliant leadership program, to the highly cohesive and supportive environment it is for participants to explore and grow themselves today.

RYLA Tasmania as it exists today is thanks to the support of these enthusiastic and hard working clubs and past participants.

RYLA also depends upon the sponsoring Rotary Clubs who enable each Rylarian to participate.

RYLA participants can be aged 18-30, but individual applications outside this age range may be considered.

RYLA emphasises leadership, citizenship and personal growth and aims to;

  • Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth
  • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders
  • Encourage leadership of youth by youth
  • Recognises publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities
