RAWCS

Rotary Australia World Community Service
Our club has been involved with 2 RAWCS projects:    Fiji   &   Guatemala

RAWCS Fiji Expedition

After expressing interest in participating in Rotary's Fiji Housing Projects for many years we were finally able to fulfill our long time dream and send a work party to Fiji.  Our group of 13 left on May 4 for two weeks comprising Team Leader Peter Richards, John and Beth Chilcott, Sue and Tony Strickland, John and Brenda Deacon, Graeme and Jan Bellchambers, Gary Hearps, Kevin Parker, Jim Whitmore and Tony MacCormick.

The local authorities could not believe the amount of talent in our team, and were absolutely flabbergasted by the talent of our lot. They were a top team for action! (As the photos show.)

The project involved building homes, accompanying toilet/ shower blocks and a bakery.

Happy faces, beautiful people.

RAWCS Shelter Box Scheme

Our club also donated $1200 to this very worthwhile scheme. One shelter box provides shelter, warmth and comfort for up to ten people displaced by natural or other disasters.

Homes before the RAWCS working bee.

Foundations laid, framework beginning.

A new home for one of the families.

Framework for the Bakery.

RAWCS Aquabox Project

A project of the Rotary Club of Eltham Victoria, Aquabox turns dirty water into drinking water, a miracle worker in war torn and drought stricken countries.  In 2007 we donated Aquabox 30’s at a total cost of $1,500.

Each Aquabox is a plastic container filled with clothes, eating and drinking utensils and general goods.  When emptied a treatment cartridge and matching water treatment tablets turns dirty water into drinking water.  33,000 litres (1,000 litres = 5,000 cups, enough for 10 cups a day for 4 people for 4 months).

Finished and a proud crew.
